This year instead of a list of New Year's Resolutions that I normally forget about by Feb. 1st, I decided to take the "one word" challenge. The new series at our church is focusing on "life" and how it happens regardless whether your ready or not. Mike has urged everyone to pick their one word for the year which will define their goals, whether they be spiritually, physically, etc. The goal of "one word" is to move you beyond the past and look ahead. The lesson this week focused on realizing that you can't reach a goal in one week or maybe even 6 months but you have to have a vision of what you want yourself to look like in a distant time. You need to see the end results to be able to capture it.
Therefore this leads me to my "one word"
I have chosen the word "Strength". There our numerous scripture which lead me to my one word. Below are a few:
Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength
2nd Samuel 22:33 God is my strength and my power and he maketh my way perfect
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and strength
When I speak of strength, I am referring to strength in all areas of my life. In the end, I want to strengthen my faith and walk with God, I want to strengthen my role as a mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, friend, and daughter-in-law. I want to find the strength to overcome obstacles in a tactful way which will make me become a better person in all aspects of my life; spiritually, physically, and relationally (?), I want to lean on God to give me the strength to reach my end result. God has given me so much to be thankful for and I often still do not rely on him to give me the strength to overcome my worries. So this year I am looking to him!
I know that "strength" seems like a very vague word but to me I know personally how I want to see myself at the end of the year. I have a goal for each aspect in my life which relates to finding strength to overcome fears, stereotypes and being plain hardheaded. For example, I refer to strength in dealing with my girls. I want to find the strength to show more patience with them. I want my girls to find comfort in me. I often find myself raising my voice instead of patiently talking about the issue at hand.
So I challenge all of you to pick your one word. Live by it and see how it changes your life. And when the year ends and another begins, choose a new word! Visit myoneword.com
